TIME YOUR VISIT
Technically, the ski season has already begun, kicking off on the 10th of June. However, a warmer May means you might be better off prolonging your departure. We recommend waiting until July, but it’d be best to consult official ski websites and weather reports when it gets a bit closer to the date!
ACCOMMODATION
In Australia, we are absolutely spoilt for choice when it comes to finding premier snow accommodation. We’ve chosen to focus on our top three options in both New South Wales and Victoria.
NEW SOUTH WALES
Conveniently located just 800 metres from the chairlifts (with an over-snow ride included in your stay), Kooloora Lodge is a perfect choice for avid skiers and snowboarders. The resort offers a lodge-style accommodation, and could fit in perfectly in Aspen just as well as it does in the Kosciuszko National Park. Guests even have the option to book a room with exclusive, breathtaking views of the Perisher Valley.
#2: DRIFT HILL CHALET, LUXURY THREDBO RESORTS
Drift Hill Chalet is truly a one-of-a-kind snow experience. Located in Thredbo central, Drift Hill Chalet is a luxury, standalone ski chalet that can sleep up to four guests. Truly providing a unique stay in terms of stunning decoration and facilities, guests can indulge in heated floors, a fully-equipped mud room, and a spacious living layout. Decked out with a high-end kitchen, Drift Hill Chalet is perfect for those seeking a ‘BNB’ style stay as opposed to a hotel.
#3: SNOWGOOSE APARTMENTS, THREDBO VILLAGE
Snowgoose Apartments offers a more self-contained luxury experience for its guests, with studio and loft apartments available to book. The apartments are located within a two-minute walk from Thredbo Village, providing convenience to guests.
#1 PICK: ASTRA, FALL'S CREEK
#2: MT. BULLER CHALET, MT. BULLER
#3: ST. FALL'S RESORT, FALLS CREEK
APRÉS-SKI
There is so much to do in both New South Wales and Victoria outside of snow sports. Exciting nightlife, boutique restaurants and cafes, shopping, and even scenic walks await. We’re really only going to scratch the service, but there are so many more options available to look at on many of the official pages, such as the Thredbo and Fall’s Creek tourism pages.
How does a Japanese-style menu with mountain views sound? Black Sallee’s serves ramen, share plates, and poke bowls to guests as they enjoy the snowy mountain landscape around them. It’s the perfect place to refuel after a day on the snow, and is located at the top of Snowgums Chairlift.
Whilst Kareela Hutte is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, you cannot miss their Snowcat dinners. These exclusive, four-course dinners with wine pairings that overlook Thredbo village are only offered on Wednesdays from the 24th July-28th August, and are an unforgettable experience. Travel in Thredbo’s exhilarating snowcats to and from the dinner to truly get the most of your snowy getaway.
Open from 11am-late, Powder Keg Bar is a central and fun nightlife spot for Victorian guests. With a wide offering of beers, wines, and cocktails, you can come by for an evening drink or stay for live music and DJs.
Looking for a classic, after-ski bar experience? At Off-Piste Bar, you can sit by the fireplace with a cocktail, indulge in bar food with your friends, or even show off your skills at the Open Mic Nights on Thursdays from 9:30PM. Off-Piste Bar has a bit of something for everyone.
